Mazu Networks, a start-up that was a runner-up in the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology entrepreneurship competition, aims to put an end to the hacker attacks that resulted in highly publicized outages earlier this year for Internet high-flyers Yahoo Inc. and Buy.com Inc., among others. Mazu, which walked away Wednesday night with a $10,000 runner-up prize in the MIT competition, says its product could have prevented the outages that some Internet executives have maintained are indefensible.
