He’s the former president of an association whose mere name is too racist and homophobic to print here. And he once boasted to the New York Times that he “makes people afraid for their lives.” But in the wake of Weev’s conviction Tuesday on charges of hacking AT&T to steal iPad users’ email addresses, many in the security research community are rallying to his side: Even trolls, they argue, don’t deserve to go to prison for pointing their browser at the wrong web site.
