Security The Mozilla Foundation this week updated its rival to Microsoft Outlook, the Thunderbird stand-alone POP3 e-mail and news client, to plug some of the same security holes that earlier were fixed in the open-source group's popular Firefox browser.

Thunderbird 1.0.5, said Mozilla, is a "minor update" that fixes some security issues and improves the client's stability, but nevertheless should be downloaded and installed "by all users." Mozilla also skipped Thunderbird to 1.0.5 -- the previous version was 1.0.2 -- to make it match its moniker with Firefox.
