Server Security A new study addressing security issues finds that software-development managers generally rate Linux as a more secure operating system than Windows. The study, which will be released by the end of the month, was conducted by BZ Research, the research subsidiary of publisher BZ Media LLC. It was not funded by any vendors.

The company polled 6,344 software-development managers to better understand how they perceive security in a number of different areas. "We wanted to know what people thought needed to be done to clean up the operating systems and platforms on which they work," says Alan Zeichick, executive VP of BZ Media. The company, which publishes SD Times, targeted developers rather than network or system administrators.

"Developers increasingly have to become students of security," Zeichick says. "They have to assume that the application itself will be hacked, rather than simply trusting that an operating system will provide security."
