Most of the 1,000 adults surveyed by phone about their comfort with the government's ability to safeguard their personal data said businesses are more trustworthy.

Concern about security breeches and other computer crimes make 63 percent of respondents less likely to provide personal data to the government. Worries about misuse of government-held data plague 81 percent of Americans.
