Here is my question: Are “cyEma7;IkmH!” or “hot1BA-Bitso69” secure passwords? Yes definitely, but who (the hell) can remember it! YOU WILL - after reading this article! One of the problems with passwords is that users forget them. For that reason people use simple password phrases like their dog’s name, their kid’s first name and birthdates, the name of the current month or everything in different combinations.
I feel that secure passwords are one of the most important security practice any computer user can do. What do you think? How secure and useful are your passwords?

Using those passwords are the best way to remmember them. I personly use 4 passwords (very complex ones) depending on the type of things to be secured. let's say web sites passwords, financials (or private things), servers access (with my username), and specific apps passwords. That means that all the web sites were I have an account have the same password (except banking), all my financials acceses have the same password etc.. I change these passwords every 3 monthes (It takes me half a day to do all the changes) but I never lose my password, and I always remember them. for the very specific paswords (such as root acceses) I have implemented a 4 eyes policy in the company, the root passwrd is splitted into two segments, one segment is known by the admins, the other one is in the safe were only two persons have access. each time the second part is used, it is changed by a new one. |
