Debian 4.0: DSA-1480-1 Critical: Poppler Buffer Overflow Attack

Urgent notice regarding Debian concerning updates to the poppler library. Timely upgrade essential to reduce vulnerabilities.
Alin Rad Pop discovered several buffer overflows in the Poppler PDF library, which could allow the execution of arbitrary code if a malformed PDF file is opened.

Summary


The old stable distribution (sarge) doesn't contain poppler.

We recommend that you upgrade your poppler packages.

Upgrade instructions
- --------------------wget url
will fetch the file for you
dpkg -i file.deb
will install the referenced file.

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for
sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade
will install corrected packages

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the
footer to the proper configuration.
