Debian 3.1 DSA-740-1: Serious Zlib Remote Denial of Service Problem

A critical vulnerability within the zlib library in Debian poses a significant risk of denial of service; it is essential to update without delay to reduce potential threats.
An error in the way zlib handles the inflation of certain compressed files can cause a program which uses zlib to crash when opening an invalid file.

Summary


For the stable distribution (sarge), this problem has been fixed in
version 1.2.2-4.sarge.1.

For the unstable distribution, this problem has been fixed in version
1.2.2-7.

We recommend that you upgrade your clamav package.

Upgrade instructions
- --------------------wget url
will fetch the file for you
dpkg -i file.deb
will install the referenced file.

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for
sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade
will install corrected packages

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the
footer to the proper configuration.
