Summary
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------Debian Security Advisory DSA 676-1 security@debian.org http://www.debian.org/security/ Martin Schulze February 11th, 2005 http://www.debian.org/security/faq - --------------------------------------------------------------------------Package : xpcd Vulnerability : buffer overflow Problem-Type : local Debian-specific: no CVE ID : CAN-2005-0074 Erik Sjölund discovered a buffer overflow in pcdsvgaview, an SVGA PhotoCD viewer. xpcd-svga is part of xpcd and uses svgalib to display graphics on the Linux console for which root permissions are required. A malicious user could overflow a fixed-size buffer and may cause the program to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges. For the stable distribution (woody) this problem has been fixed in version 2.08-8woody3. For the unstable distribution (sid) this problem will be fixed soon. We recommend that you upgrade your xpcd-svga package immediately. Upgrade Instructions - --------------------wget url will fetch the file for you dpkg -i file.deb will install the referenced file. If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for sources.list as given below: apt-get update will update the internal database apt-get upgrade will install corrected packages You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the footer to the proper configuration.
