There's big business in compliance. Attendees at the CRN Systems Integrator Roundtable say the information management policies mandated by the impending Sarbanes-Oxley Act deadline are laying the groundwork for business intelligence, data security and IT governance dashboard projects throughout 2005. Indeed, AMR Research estimated earlier this year that up to $5.5 billion would be spent in 2004 related to preparing companies for complying with the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley corporate governance law. And AMR expects SOX spending to keep expanding in the coming year. That's because customers are starting to think about how to use those policies to their business advantage, according to roundtable attendees, who CRN gathered together earlier this month in New York to discuss these issues. "I think that what's happening is that most companies are struggling to meet with Section 404, which has a deadline of Nov. 15 and really involves policies and procedures," said Woo Song, chairman of Intrasphere, an enterprise software integrator in New York with about 200 employees. "Past that, hopefully there is going to be a wave of re-engineering and new systems building related to Sarbanes-Oxley."
