Cabletron Systems, on behalf of Enterasys Networks who is the only provider of total network solutions singularly focused on enterprise-class customers, today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Network Security Wizards (NSW). The addition of Baltimore-based NSW gives Enterasys access to key Intrusion Detection System (IDS) technology that will be integrated into its industry leading switching, routing and VPN platforms as well as providing a complete range of standalone best of breed high-speed enterprise security solutions. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

In announcing the acquisition, Henry Fiallo, Enterasys Networks' President said, " With the acquisition of NSW and their high speed, network-based IDS solutions, we continue to broaden the range and depth of our portfolio of network security offerings. Together with our recent acquisition of Indus River's VPN solutions, this puts us well on the way to providing end-to-end network security for our enterprise customers, within the framework of a holistic security architecture."

Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, NSW is a self-funded, startup company focused on developing high-performance, "third generation" IDS software and appliances for network and system monitoring. Its Dragon Sensor network intrusion detection product recently won the Network Computing 2000 Well-Connected Award in the category of Enterprise Security Intrusion Detection. A network IDS constantly monitors all traffic traversing an enterprise infrastructure for signs of misuse, which may indicate virus infection, or theft of data. An IDS logs all detected network and system activity for real time alerting, forensic analysis and evidence collection.

Commenting on the acquisition by Enterasys, Ron Gula, CEO and founder of NSW said, "The intrusion detection marketplace is growing at 39% yearly, and spending in the Enterprise portion of the market is expected to reach over $500M by 2003. This makes the addition of NSW and its award winning IDS product lines a natural for Enterasys and gives them a vital component in the building of an industry leading, enterprise network security portfolio."
