Saddle River, NJ -- August 16, 2000 -- Guardian Digital, Inc.(tm), the expert in open source security solutions, today announced the availability of the Linux Lockbox(tm), a secure turnkey e-business server. With the release of the Linux Lockbox, Guardian Digital has become the first company to market a complete open-source alternative to proprietary security solutions for e-business.

Forming the foundation of the Guardian Digital Linux Lockbox is EnGarde(tm), an open source distribution of Linux that has been specifically engineered by Guardian Digital to achieve the level of security required for conducting e-business. Integrated into the Linux Lockbox is the OpenSales AllCommerce(tm) e-business software, providing the componets required to construct storefronts quickly and easily.

EnGarde improves the security of existing versions of Linux in several critical areas with:

  • Advanced forms of data integrity management and assurance
  • Intrusion alert capabilities
  • Reduction of any threat should an administrative account be compromised
  • Improved authentication and access control utilizing strong cryptography
  • Real-time and around-the-clock remote notification of immediate security threat via email or pager
"Corporate IT departments have recognized Linux as a particularly strong platform for Web-based commerce due to its stability and flexibility," said Dave Wreski, president and founder of Guardian Digital, Inc. "The Linux Lockbox addresses the demand for an inexpensive, highly reliable complete e-business solution. Equally as important, it provides the level of security and data integrity that is of critical importance to our customers."

The Linux Lockbox offers easy-to-use secure graphical report and administration tools that provide the ability to generate the necessary backend support required for configuring hundreds of AllCommerce storefronts or virtual web servers. Its real-time network and security monitoring features provide a level of assurance that the server is operating efficiently and securely, and can alert an administrator to any issues that require immediate attention.

Guardian Digitals products are crafted to achieve the optimum level of Linux performance and compatibility. Multiple rackmount configurations are available to address space-saving considerations at co-location facilities, ISPSs, and ASPs. Each unit is powered by Intel Pentium-class processors. The 1U chassis includes memory capacities up to 512Mb and hard disk storage up to 60Gb.

Used in conjunction with an optional dual-channel RAID controller and up to four 36Gb Ultra2/LVD SCSI disks, the 2U chassis provides increased data availability and reliability, while minimizing server downtime. The 2U boasts dual-processor capability and supports of up to 2Gb RAM.

"Linux administrators will revel at the ability to use the included secure remote access tools to perform common administrative functions," said Wreski. "Additionally, non-technical users can utilize the Web-based graphical front end to perform similar tasks without sacrificing the power and flexibility of the Linux operating system."
